Energy Security is No Longer a Luxury: Canadian and European Perspectives

This event was live broadcast on our YouTube channel, and a recording can be viewed here.

This webinar addressed the new geo-economics of energy production and consumption with special attention to Canada, Europe and their roles in global energy markets. The panelists considered the unexpected, increased reliance on oil and natural gas, including liquefied natural gas (LNG) and Canada’s energy future. Within a broader perspective, the webinar also addressed the present situation and likely future of Europe’s oil and natural gas sectors. It considered such questions as: What are the geopolitical implications, for Canada and Europe as a whole, of the planned transition to a carbon-neutral economy by mid-century? Will renewables still have the role planned for them, before the the recent government-imposed economic lockdowns and Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine? What future is there for hydroelectric power and nuclear energy, including small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear technology? A panel of four world-class experts on the relevant geopolitical, economic and energy issues joined the NAOC Energy Security Program to address these and other questions in what was first-rate discussion.
