This commentary will present an antithesis to the argument that NATO in 2014 is at the beginning of a long-expected struggle towards its ultimate demise… It doesn’t have to be that way. Actually one could also believe that the internal fragility that is being exposed in light of external challenges, more than anything reflects how successful NATO has been in preventing any fundamental threats from emerging against North Atlantic security since the end of the cold war.
