Listen as Erick McKinlay and Magdalena Surma interview Inspector Shawna Coxon. She is in her 20th year of policing with the Toronto Police Service. Inspector Shawna Coxon specializes in youth crime, child abuse, sex crimes, human rights, professional standards, community response, strategic analysis and the Computer Cyber Crime (C3) Section. Inspector Shawna Coxon successfully completed an Honours B.A. in Psychology from York University, a M.A. in Criminology from the University of Toronto, and her Ph.D. in Law from Leicester University. In addition, she is a published academic and she has lectured internationally. She is deeply passionate about sustainable development, education, and international human rights.

Co-host, Erick McKinlay successfully completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Toronto, majoring in History and minoring in Political Science and Italian Studies. Erick McKinlay also completed a Master of Arts degree with a specialization in Culture and Communication along with a law degree (J.D.) at the University of Ottawa. Previously, Erick worked at the Public Service Relations Board, where he provided feedback to Senior Counsel regarding the editing of board decisions. Erick drafted a report on the different types of advocacy carried out by lawyers who appear before adjudicators at the board. He also researched particulars of how technology is used by public agencies in North America.

Inspector Shawna Coxon discusses how cybercrime has changed as time as progressed. In addition, she also examines what laws have been implemented in order to address criminal offences where the internet and information technologies have been used in the commission of a crime such as fraud, identity theft, intellectual property infringement, money laundering and drug trafficking.

Magdalena Surma
Magdalena Surma is currently Canada's NATO Program Contributor and Outreach Coordinator. Former Program Editor of Global Horizons, Magdalena completed a BA in Legal Studies (Honours) and a Masters in Public Service at the University of Waterloo. She also attended Harvard during two summers, where she completed courses in psychology, government, and law. In addition, she successfully completed Harvard Law School’s Executive Education Program in Negotiation and Leadership. Magdalena is currently completing an LLB through University of London’s International Program. She is passionate about law, government, and charitable non-profit organizations. As an avid researcher, she hopes to extend her research to investigate women in security while examining society, culture, and international relations. In addition, Magdalena is also passionate about international business and economy. She is very excited about being involved with various projects at NATO, specifically engaging youth and society about international affairs. Apart from a love of politics, Magdalena enjoys fine art, ballet, and classical music.
