Sophia Malamoud

Sophia Malamoud is a fourth-year student at Western University, where she is completing an Honours Specialization in International Relations. Her primary areas of interest lie in security and intelligence work. In particular, she has a keen interest in influence operations and Eastern European relations, with a focus on Russian regional security concerns. She believes that increasing public knowledge through organizations like the NATO Association of Canada is crucial for addressing these modern security challenges.

At the NATO Association of Canada, Sophia serves as a Social Media Coordinator, where she is primarily responsible for the Association’s online presence and outreach. Her work focuses on increasing the organization’s recognition and building upon its strong foundation of engaging and informing the public about global security affairs.

Alongside her role at the Association, Sophia is involved in a diverse range of fields. She has contributed to various campus organizations, student journals, and research labs to further refine her analytical and organizational skills. She also currently serves as a Signals Operator for the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserve. These experiences have cultivated her ability to build strategic connections and remain adaptable in fast-paced, team-based environments.

Sophia aims to leverage her passion and the skills acquired through her experiences to pursue a career in public affairs with a focus on Canadian security, bridging her academic research with real-world policy decisions.

    As a leading member of the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA), NATO Association of Canada has strong and enduring ties with sister organizations in many of the alliance countries, as well as members of NATO’s “Partnership for Peace” and “Mediterranean Dialogue” programmes. The NAOC has had a leading role in the recent transformation and modernization of the ATA, and helped to create and develop the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association (YATA).

    The NAOC has strong ties with the Government of Canada including Global Affairs Canada and the Department of National Defence. We are constantly working to create and maintain relationships with international organizations such as the World Bank Group, the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development, NATO Headquarters, the International Criminal Court, and other prominent international NGOs and think tanks.
