ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Introducing NATOSim – an all-new model diplomacy experience aimed at recreating the decision-making process of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Officially hosted in downtown Toronto by the NATO Association of Canada, NATOSim is a one-day conference that provides students with a unique chance to learn more about the structure and values of NATO. Delegates represent NATO member-states, draft resolutions, engage in moderated debate, and master the art of diplomacy and negotiation within the framework of NATO as a multinational military alliance system. Committees focus on the issues facing NATO and its operations today, as well as reenact moments in NATO’s storied history.

As we celebrate the continuing legacy of the alliance and its role in maintaining the rules-based international order, the NAOC invites you to partake in future NATOSim events. Our most recent NATOSim conference was held on August 10th, 2019.

ABOUT NATO

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was established in 1949 as a defensive intergovernmental military alliance that protected its members from outside aggression, particularly during the Cold War. An attack against any one member-state, no matter how big or small, was considered an attack on all members of the alliance, invoking the principles of collective security articulated in Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty. Today, NATO has expanded to 29 countries across the “Atlantic Zone” of North America and Europe, and its modern mission has shifted to include counterterrorism operations and the general maintenance of global peace and stability.

ABOUT THE NAOC

The NATO Association of Canada (NAOC) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to educate the Canadian public about the mission and values of NATO. The NAOC works with schools, academics, businesses, and parliamentarians to liaise on issues regarding Canadian defence and the role of Canada within the larger multinational framework of the NATO alliance. The NAOC also conducts an internship program for university-aged students that connects them to the diplomatic scene in Toronto and beyond. Follow the NAOC website and social media channels to hear more about our events, publications, internship program, and related membership opportunities.
