Sorya Akbari is a student at the University of Toronto studying International Relations with interests in global affairs, diplomacy, international security, and public policy. She is passionate about issues related to migration, refugee support, women’s rights, and international cooperation. Alongside her academic studies, Sorya has been actively involved in student leadership and community initiatives both on and off campus.
Originally from Afghanistan, she has worked with and supported organizations focused on newcomer assistance, advocacy, and cross-cultural outreach. Through previous volunteer and professional experiences, she has developed strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills while working in diverse and fast-paced environments. Fluent in multiple languages, including Persian, Pashto, Urdu, Arabic, she values the importance of cultural understanding and international collaboration.
At the University of Toronto, Sorya has participated in various student organizations related to international affairs, women’s leadership, and policy engagement. Through her involvement with the NATO Association of Canada, she hopes to further expand her knowledge of global security, diplomacy, and international relations while contributing to meaningful initiatives and events that encourage dialogue and collaboration.
