Selina Khan

Selina graduated from Mount Allison University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts, double-majoring in International Relations and Sociology. Her academic and professional work is grounded in a strong commitment to human security, social justice, and community-led initiatives and advocacy.

She has worked with Prince Edward Island’s Advisory Council on the Status of Women, where she supported and led initiatives on gender-based violence. Selina has also gained experience in food security through her internship with the Moving Forward Food Security Co-op in Dorchester, NB. She has volunteered for several years with Université Laval and Humanitarian Partners International, with their annual Humanitarian Disaster Simulation Training Program.

Selina is an active member of CISV, serving as the local leadership liaison on the National Leadership Training Committee and volunteering on multiple international programs, including trips to Colombia and England. She is also a member of Women in International Security (WIIS). Selina has participated in professional conferences, including the 2024 NAADSN Arctic Security Simulation Conference.

Her primary research interests include human security, migration, and humanitarianism, with a particular geographic focus on Central and South America, informed by her dual Canadian–Trinidadian heritage. She has completed specialized research on refugee and migration issues through Saint Mary’s University’s Migrant Justice Field School and hopes to continue exploring global governance, conflict and peace, and migration in her future academic and professional pursuits.

The NAOC has had a leading role in the recent transformation and modernization of the ATA, and helped to create and develop the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association (YATA).

    The NAOC has strong ties with the Government of Canada including Global Affairs Canada and the Department of National Defence. We are constantly working to create and maintain relationships with international organizations such as the World Bank Group, the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development, NATO Headquarters, the International Criminal Court, and other prominent international NGOs and think tanks.
