Sarahi Giles Candela

Sarahi Giles Candela is a fourth-year student at the University of Toronto, double majoring in Political Science and European Affairs. Drawing on her international background, including her upbringing in Mexico, she brings a global outlook to her work and has developed a deep interest in how multilateral institutions like NATO shape global security and cooperation. Her academic journey has been complemented by hands-on experiences, including serving as a Compliance Analyst with the G20 Research Group, where she analyzed Mexico and France’s adherence to international commitments, and working as a Decision Desk Intern at Global News during Canada’s federal election. She has also led communications as Director of Public Relations for Trinity College’s Conversat Committee and coordinated policy-focused initiatives through the University of Toronto Policython.

Now, as Events Coordinator with the NATO Association of Canada, Sarahi aims to create platforms that connect students, professionals, and policymakers, gaining practical experience in event design and public engagement while promoting awareness of NATO’s mission. Fluent in Spanish and conversational in French and Italian, she brings a global, multicultural perspective to every project she undertakes.

    As a leading member of the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA), NATO Association of Canada has strong and enduring ties with sister organizations in many of the alliance countries, as well as members of NATO’s “Partnership for Peace” and “Mediterranean Dialogue” programmes. The NAOC has had a leading role in the recent transformation and modernization of the ATA, and helped to create and develop the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association (YATA).

    The NAOC has strong ties with the Government of Canada including Global Affairs Canada and the Department of National Defence. We are constantly working to create and maintain relationships with international organizations such as the World Bank Group, the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development, NATO Headquarters, the International Criminal Court, and other prominent international NGOs and think tanks.
