Justin Myers

Justin is an experienced policy professional and interdisciplinary thinker who has researched and worked on a variety of emerging issues in Canadian security and public policy. He holds a Master of Arts in Global Governance from the Balsillie School of International Affairs, where his research focused on Canada’s sovereignty over its Arctic waters, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics from McMaster University. Currently a Policy Analyst at Finance Canada, Justin recently completed the Parliamentary Internship Programme, during which he worked in the office of the Shadow Minister of National Defence and had the privilege of travelling to NATO HQ in Brussels.

Through his academic research and professional experience, Justin has explored solutions to critical Canadian policy challenges, including Canadian Armed Forces recruitment, interprovincial trade barriers, and Arctic sovereignty disputes. As a Research Fellow at the Balsillie School, Justin co-authored a policy brief on digital authoritarianism for submission to Global Affairs Canada, coordinated a graduate research conference with the Canadian International Council, and represented the school at Carleton University’s Model NATO simulation in Ottawa. Most recently, he has worked with the NATO Association of Canada on a special report examining Canadian defence spending.

    As a leading member of the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA), NATO Association of Canada has strong and enduring ties with sister organizations in many of the alliance countries, as well as members of NATO’s “Partnership for Peace” and “Mediterranean Dialogue” programmes. The NAOC has had a leading role in the recent transformation and modernization of the ATA, and helped to create and develop the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association (YATA).

    The NAOC has strong ties with the Government of Canada including Global Affairs Canada and the Department of National Defence. We are constantly working to create and maintain relationships with international organizations such as the World Bank Group, the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development, NATO Headquarters, the International Criminal Court, and other prominent international NGOs and think tanks.
