Join the NATO Association of Canada and the Canadian Forces College Foundation for a Talk on the Wagner Group on June 15

On June 15, the NATO Association of Canada and the Canadian Forces College Foundation (CFCF) are co-hosting “Wagner in Africa: Implications for Canada” at the Canadian Forces College (CFC), a premier learning institution for senior officers in the Canadian Armed Forces, in Toronto. Dr. Christopher Spearin, a professor at CFC and expert on the “privatization of force” and other issues, will deliver the presentation on the Russian mercenary group often known for its involvement in the war in Ukraine and the recent remarks of its head, Yevgeny Prigozhin.

As the title of the event suggests, however, Spearin’s presentation will draw attention to the group’s lesser-known activities in sub-Saharan Africa. The event, which is open to members of the public who have registered in advance, will shed light on how this organization is working to advance Russian interests well beyond the borders of Europe and what this means for Canada.

The event is also an opportunity for the NATO Association of Canada and CFC to continue their partnership and bring together their respective communities. The organizations have previously worked together to increase the visibility of security issues in Canada, and Robert Baines, president and CEO of the NATO Association of Canada, was recently appointed chair of CFCF’s board of directors

“I’m excited to deepen the connection between the NATO Association of Canada and the Canadian Forces College Foundation through a common goal of raising awareness about the importance of security and the role of education in maintaining a strong society,” said Baines.

Tickets for the event are limited and on sale now. To ensure your space, please register as soon as possible by visiting the NATO Association of Canada’s Eventbrite page
