As a leading member of the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA), NATO Association of Canada has strong and enduring ties with sister organizations in many of the alliance countries, as well as members of NATO’s “Partnership for Peace” and “Mediterranean Dialogue” programmes. The NAOC has had a leading role in the recent transformation and modernization of the ATA, and helped to create and develop the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association (YATA). The NAOC has strong ties with the Government of Canada including Global Affairs Canada and the Department of National Defence. We are constantly working to create and maintain relationships with international organizations such as the World Bank Group, the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development, NATO Headquarters, the International Criminal Court, and other prominent international NGOs and think tanks.2010 Undergraduate Essay Contest – Natural Resources and Conflict in the 21st Century
The NATO Council of Canada announces the 2010 undergraduate student essay contest on the subject of natural resources and conflict in the 21st century. Essays received before April 1 will be considered for free admission to the NATO Council of Canada Spring Conference. Essays received by May 15 will be considered for admission to another upcoming academic conference. All winners will also receive a free one year membership to the NATO Council of Canada and have their winning piece published on the NATO Council of Canada’s website.

Parliament Speaker and acting President Bronislaw Komorowski has announced a national week of mourning in Poland following the tragic death of President Lech Kaczynski, first lady Maria Kaczynski and a number of Polish military, economic and civic leaders in a deadly plane crash over the weekend.

A Test for Counterinsurgency in Afghanistan
On Sunday ISAF forces operating alongside US Marines and Afghan troops began a much-anticipated military push in southern Helmand province. Operation Moshtarak is focused on the lawless area of Marjah, which serves as a major base for insurgent activity and drug trafficking. The launching of this offensive is part of the larger American military surge in Afghanistan and marks the largest joint operation by allied forces since the 2001 invasion.
