About HMCS Athabaskan & Operation CARIBBE
In the Spring of 2014 alone, the multinational campaign against illicit trafficking and organized crime known as Operation MARTILLO disrupted more than 5 tonnes (11,000 lbs) of cocaine in the Caribbean and Pacific coast of Central America, thanks in part to the efforts of four Canadian Navy destroyers active during that time. Cdr Matt Plaschka, newly returned from deployment as commander of HMCS Athabaskan, will share his experiences and insights as the Canadian contribution to deny transnational criminal organizations air and maritime access to Caribbean and Central American shores. Join us for an exciting glimpse into our military’s OpCARIBBE mission against drug trafficking and organized crime, offering a unique insider’s perspective on Canada’s role in this important operation.
