The Atlantic Council of Canada’s Spring Conference on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) seeks to explore the varied ways in which women’s roles manifest in public policy processes, conflict situations, and transitional justice apparatuses.
The WPS Conference will examine women’s roles in international security through three different panels. The first panel will discuss the impact of UNSC Resolution 1325 on peace and security in Canada and abroad. The second panel will focus specifically on the role of women on the front lines and their role in conflict situations and reconstruction processes. The final panel will explore the role of women in post-war peace negotiations, governance, and development.
Speakers include: Ambassador Marriët Schuurman, the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security; the Honorable Mobina Jaffer, Senator; Donica Pottie, Director of Conflict Policy and Security Coherence Secretariat, Dr. Lorna Read, the Chief Operating Officer of War Child Canada; Olivia Ward, Toronto Star Correspondent and Professor Sylvia Bashevkin from the University of Toronto.
