Markian Kchik

Markian is a seasoned civil and military engineer with over three decades of combined experience in engineering consultancy and as a combat engineer. He served for 14 years in the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserves, including six years as a section commander with 32 Combat Engineer Regiment and eight years with 2 Intelligence Company as an engineering consultant and analyst. His military service includes domestic deployments for disaster response and numerous EOD clearance operations.

In his civilian career, Markian has spent more than 20 years as a senior design lead with leading engineering consulting firms in Ontario, Canada. His expertise spans large-scale land development projects and strategic planning.

In the summer of 2022, driven by a strong sense of purpose, Markian traveled to Ukraine to contribute his skills amid the ongoing crisis. He joined the International EOD Ukraine group—a volunteer team of former sappers and EOD technicians—supporting the Ukrainian military in training capacity and working closely with the National Police of Ukraine EOD department. Following the group’s dissolution, Markian remained as the sole active member, continuing to operate as a voluntary consultant, EOD instructor, and liaison officer along the Police EOD department.

Recognized for his commitment and expertise, Markian was invited in September 2023 to join the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as a Mine Action Liaison Officer. In June 2024, he transitioned to the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), where he currently serves as an Operations Advisor, EOD Instructor, and Technical Advisor.
