Siobhán Marie is a fourth-year Bachelor of Arts (Honours) student in Indigenous Studies in the Teacher Education Stream at Trent University. Her academic and professional work is guided by a conviction that education changes people, who in turn, change the world.
Siobhán comes to the NATO Association of Canada with a diverse leadership portfolio spanning provincial policy, student advocacy, international affairs, and community development. From 2023–2026, she served with the Ontario Student Trustees Association as its inaugural Chief Operating Officer before being elected to two consecutive terms as Chief Executive Officer. She now serves on the organization’s Board of Directors and has transitioned into the role of Vice President of University and College Affairs for her university’s student union, where she advocates for the interests of post-secondary students.
Her work has also taken her beyond Canada. Siobhán spent eleven months studying in Norway, focusing on human rights education while serving as Political Manager and Events Manager with the United Nations Students Association. She also volunteered weekly at the Bergen asylum reception centre, designing and facilitating activities for children and families. Together, these experiences strengthened her interest in the relationship between policy, education, displacement, and belonging. Her academic interests centre on Indigenous Knowledge and Education, with the research interest of epistemic injustices in higher education institutions. She is interested in who gets to define and validate knowledge and how higher education institutions create invisible fences by evaluating Indigenous Knowledge through Western academic frameworks.
Siobhán looks forward to using research, policy, and advocacy to build more equitable institutions and create meaningful opportunities for young people to shape the systems that shape them through her internship with the NAOC.
