Karl Cristobal is a Political Science student at the University of Toronto Mississauga, pursuing minors in History and Education Studies. His interests include international relations, international law, civic engagement, youth empowerment, and the role of states within international institutions in responding to an ever-changing global landscape.
Karl spent a year studying abroad at the University of Melbourne in Australia, where he also worked as a Research Assistant examining the education crisis in the Philippines. At U of T, he continues to build his research experience through a Research Opportunity Program focused on Russia, Ukraine, and NATO.
Beyond academics, Karl is involved in initiatives that connect young people with politics and public affairs. He participated in Model Senate 2026 at the Senate of Canada, where he gained firsthand experience with Canada’s parliamentary process. He is also involved with the U of T Global Affairs Student Association and Filipino-Canadian community organizations.
Karl believes that international affairs are ultimately individual affairs. While global issues can feel distant, their consequences are ultimately experienced by individuals and communities. For him, meaningful engagement begins with people choosing to learn, participate, and contribute to the world around them.
As a Fundraising Coordinator with the NATO Association of Canada, Karl looks forward to contributing to the organization while further developing his understanding of Canada’s role in NATO, transatlantic security, and international affairs.
