Daniel Sun is a Program Editor with the NATO Association of Canada’s Indo-Pacific and NATO portfolio. He is an undergraduate student pursuing a Joint Honours BA in Political Science and History at McGill University, with a research focus on Indo-Pacific security, specializing in Chinese foreign and domestic policy and East Asian geopolitics.
Daniel has published analyses of the evolving security dynamics in East Asia, particularly on the People’s Liberation Army and the changing strategic relationship between the United States and China. His broader research interests cover Chinese security policy, great-power competition, and the historical forces that shape the modern-day Indo-Pacific. He has also worked in Canadian politics and law, including with a Member of Parliament and in several legal research internships. He is bilingual in English and Chinese.

As a leading member of the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA), NATO Association of Canada has strong and enduring ties with sister organizations in many of the alliance countries, as well as members of NATO’s “Partnership for Peace” and “Mediterranean Dialogue” programmes. The NAOC has had a leading role in the recent transformation and modernization of the ATA, and helped to create and develop the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association (YATA).
The NAOC has strong ties with the Government of Canada including Global Affairs Canada and the Department of National Defence. We are constantly working to create and maintain relationships with international organizations such as the World Bank Group, the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development, NATO Headquarters, the International Criminal Court, and other prominent international NGOs and think tanks.
